چکیده

Some new foods (sprouts, microgreens and baby leaf) of the brassica genus are appreciated for their nutritional nutraceutical values. The aim this experimental trial was to improve traits these by evaluating effects climatic condition, genotype, plant growth stage on development greater quality in relation foods. morphometric glucosinolates (GLSs) three traditional Italian cultivars Brassica oleracea crops, such as broccoli (B. var. italica), namely Sicilian landrace ‘Broccolo Nero’ (BN) commercial ‘Cavolo Broccolo Ramoso Calabrese’ (CR), well kale cultivar Laciniato Nero di Toscana’ (CL) acephala DC.), were evaluated an unheated greenhouse Catania during end 2019 beginning 2020. Plant studied at different phenological stages—from seeds sprouts, microgreens, leaves—over two growing cycles, one autumn–winter other spring–summer. showed more rapid biomass production than (i.e., weight, hypocotyl length, leaf width). GLS profile varied significantly (p < 0.05), both plant’s genotype. highest amount glucoraphanin detected BN leaves, about 8 µmol g−1 d.w., whereas glucobrassicin its related derivatives 14 d.w. leaves CL 15 10 CR, respectively. These can also be produced home with simple cheap equipment

Chromosome Doubling of Microspore-Derived Plants from Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) and Broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica L.)

Chromosome doubling of microspore-derived plants is an important factor in the practical application of microspore culture technology because breeding programs require a large number of genetically stable, homozygous doubled haploid plants with a high level of fertility. In the present paper, 29 populations of microspore-derived plantlets from cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) and brocc...

Composition and antioxidant activity of kale (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala) raw and cooked.

BACKGROUND Cabbage vegetables, like Brassica group, are perceived as very valuable food products. They have a very good nutritive value, high antioxidant activity and pro-healthy potential. Especially, kale (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala) is characterized by good nutritional and pro-healthy properties, but this vegetable is not popular in Poland. The aim of this work was to assess the chem...

Metabolic profiling and biological capacity of Pieris brassicae fed with kale (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala).

Phenolic and organic acid profiles of aqueous extracts from Pieris brassicae material and the host kale (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala) leaves were determined by HPLC/UV-DAD/MS(n)-ESI and HPLC-UV, respectively. The identified phenolics included acylated and nonacylated flavonoid glycosides, hydroxycinnamic acyl gentiobiosides, and sulphate phenolics. Kale exhibited the highest content (11g...

Thermal stability of L-ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid oxidase in broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica).

UNLABELLED The thermal stability of vitamin C (including l-ascorbic acid [l-AA] and dehydroascorbic acid [DHAA]) in crushed broccoli was evaluated in the temperature range of 30 to 90 degrees C whereas that of ascorbic acid oxidase (AAO) was evaluated in the temperature range of 20 to 95 degrees C. Thermal treatments (for 15 min) of crushed broccoli at 30 to 60 degrees C resulted in conversion ...

Volatile constituents throughout Brassica oleracea L. Var. acephala germination.

In this work, the volatile composition of kale ( Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala) and its variation during germination were monitored during the first 9 days of seedling development by headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) combined with gas chromatography/ion trap-mass spectrometry (GC/IT-MS). Differences were found among the materials in the distinct analyzed periods. A total of 6...
